Persons over the age of 16 years can sail as bosuns aboard an OYTNW vessel. Persons over the age of 17 years can work towards their assessments in the training berth but they cannot sail in the position of watch leader until they have reached 18 years of age. For public liability insurance purposes, OYT NW has an upper age limit of 75 years on a person sailing as sea staff.. Please note: Personal accident and travel insurance is only held for persons up to the age of 65 years. Persons over the age of 65 must obtain their own personal accident and travel insurance and provide OYT NW with insurance details prior to their voyage. SEA STAFF COMPLEMENT ABOARD GMC ON A YOUNG PERSONS VOYAGE The sea staff complement for any voyage involving young people is a minimum of - Skipper

- 2 watch leaders
- Ensign
who have been assessed to OYT NW standards. However, OYT NW reserves the right for their vessel to sail without an ensign, if 2 Trustees following consultation with the Skipper, consider the remainder of the sea staff to be of a calibre sufficient to sail the vessel and deliver the programme safely. The 17th berth may be used for Bosun/Trainee Mate purposes. The 18th berth will be a supernumerary berth used for training or other purposes as agreed by the General Manager, and should be booked through the Office. Depending on circumstances, this berth will be situated either in the Skipper's cabin or the saloon. |
